When couples dream about eloping, they usually picture dramatic mountains, rugged coastlines or faraway destinations. I’m quite sure Belgium isn’t the first country that comes to mind.
But maybe it should be.
Not because Belgium is better than those iconic destinations, but because it offers something different. Eloping in Belgium means discovering places that most people—even many Belgians—have never heard of. Hidden gems that feel intimate, peaceful and surprisingly photogenic, making them perfect for couples who want an experience that’s uniquely their own.
As an elopement photographer, I’m always searching for locations that combine beautiful scenery with a sense of peace and privacy. Belgium is full of these unexpected places, and in this series I’ll be sharing some of my favourite hidden locations for couples considering a Belgium elopement.
One of those locations is Reading Between the Lines, better known as the See-Through Church, near Borgloon.
From a distance, it looks like a traditional church rising from the rolling landscape. As you get closer, it begins to disappear. Constructed from hundreds of stacked steel plates, the church plays with light, perspective and the surrounding fields, creating an atmosphere that feels both modern and timeless. It’s one of those places that surprises you the moment you see it—and one that makes an unforgettable setting for an intimate elopement in Belgium.
