Your elopement location
guide

Which country is the best place to elope?

I have selected some of the most romantic locations for you. Let’s see if there is a match.
Deciding to elope is the first step. The next step is to find your perfect location. The places I have selected have a high score on privacy and nature to make your destination wedding a success. I am here for you with lots of tips and advice. Let’s get started!
An elopement on the moon?

Yes indeed. Although we won’t be travelling to the moon in space. We’ll keep it down to earth and meet for your elopement on Lanzarote. This small island in the Atlantic Ocean is part of Spain. Volcanoes have transformed it into an unusual but oh so romantic moonscape. Besides volcanoes, Lanzarote has black lava fields (malpaís), no beaten beaches (although that may change as more people start to discover Lanzarote) and incredibly beautiful views (miradores). It’s not a big island. This results in a sunrise- and sunset side, only separated by an hour’s drive. The climate is mild/warm all year round. The wind feels warm and there is little chance of rainy days. An elopement on Lanzarote is about surreal beauty, freedom and romance. And the moon…
A relaxed elopement on
Île de Ré
I have a special place in my heart for European islands, and one of them is the small island of Île de Ré, a luxurious holiday island where people like to visit every corner by bike. The climate is mild from spring to autumn. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is connected to the French mainland by a beautiful bridge. Yet it has never lost its own identity and history. The refined luxury surprises every visitor. Oysters, fleur de sel and wine are daily delicacies for everyone, and 100% made on Île de Ré. An elopement on this island is genuine and relaxing. White, clean beaches, historic ruins and small villages play an important role during your elopement. Newlyweds in their most beautiful outfits will effortlessly blend into the landscapes of Île de Ré. It will be all about French finesse.

Fuerteventura, an adventurous elopement

Fuerteventura is part of the Canary Islands with its climate of eternal spring. But as the name already suggests: Fuerteventura is known for its strong trade winds. It has enormous golden beaches and impressive dunes. Rain is rare. On this island many romantic locations are waiting for your elopement, accessible via gravel roads. In the rocky interior there are (less windy, but) stunning locations. Fuerteventura is a no-brainer if you like an elopement with some desert road movie vibes.
A classy elopement in Normandy, France

For centuries Normandy has been a popular place to visit. Not only great classic painters were in awe with this part of France, but also poets, film directors, and millions of tourists. Small towns resembling French film sets, beautiful apple orchards, cattle and fields of ripening grain is what Normandy is all about. It’s a region with a capital H history, and Paris is only 2 hours away. Normandy has a mild climate all year round, and the best time for your elopement is from May till September. Rain keeps the land green and the air fresh and clear. In Normandy, people talk ‘Bisous, bisous’. They drink ‘Amour’ and eat ‘Ohlala’. Normandy is pure and classy. Your destination wedding on the coast, with towering white cliffs in the background is simply impressive, overwhelming and majestic.
Here are 3 reasons to consider Normandy for you elopement:
Normandy treats its beaches with the deepest respect, because of its history. The allied forces started the liberation here to end the Second World War. Therefor the coastline has been preserved in its original form.
At coastal Normandy, people live with the rhythm of the tides. High and low tide are influenced by the moon. Here, the moon determines the timing and venue of your elopement: up on the cliffs or down on the beach.
Waving cornfields, red poppies, linen fields with small blue flowers that light up like diamonds. No wonder so many beautiful poems have been written about Normandy. As seasons change, so does Normandy, always in profound beauty.
Zeeland, a fairy tale elopement
No, not New Zealand Down Under, but Zeeland in the Netherlands, home to windmills, tulips, and the most friendliest people on earth. ‘Kop Van Schouwen’ is a huge nature reserve and a protected national monument. The best time for your elopement is during the summer. Wild ponies roam the dunes with their tall grasses, sandy meadows and pine trees. A romantic walk on the beach the night before is the best kick-off ever for your destination wedding. The sea is usually calm and the beach consists out of fine white sand. It is a fairy tale place, with many adorable ‘Hansel and Gretel’ homes. An elopement in this dreamy romantic spot in the Netherlands can be combined with an exciting city trip to Amsterdam, just 3 hours away.
A sunny elopement in Algarve, Portugal
A perfect timing for a destination wedding in Algarve is best held during spring or autumn. (Summer turns out rather hot, with many tourists enjoying their holidays.) A morning beach elopement will bathe in beautiful aquarel colors. If you’re more into gold, the evenings are just breathtaking.
Your vows mixed with the sound of waves are all you will be hearing. Algarve is a place with a rich history, and a perfect start for your honeymoon. It’s a sunny area, with many luxurious treats to discover. If you like to mix a beach elopement with a citytrip, Lisbon is only 3 hours away.
