Imagine your elopement in Northern France, strolling hand in hand between thousands of butterflies, exchanging your vows on a Normandy beach, under a purple pink sky that seems straight out of a painting of Claude Monet. It’s 100% pure French romance, and that’s exactly what Robbe and Silke were looking for.
When they contacted me, they were curious about the possible locations for their elopement, because Normandy offers a wide choice of beautiful regions. Where do you start, right?

They had chosen the longest day of the year for their destination wedding – Robbe and Silke wanted to experience their wedding to the fullest.
Nature is an important factor for elopements in Normandy, France.
A photographer has to think thoroughly about every possible elopement location:
1. The tides are prominent, if you consider a beach elopement.
2. The stand of the sun and the shade of the high cliffs are as important as the tides.
I looked up the tides for that day and immediately envisioned a beautiful elopement, with the most fantastic locations for Robbe’s and Silke’s vows.
Nothing could prepare us for the magic of that day. It started very normal, with me arriving early in the morning, with coffee and croissants, like the French do. We had decided to have a first photoshoot up the cliffs, because of the high tide. The meadows were covered with green grass and wild flowers. I am a down-to-earth photographer, but that morning we were surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of butterflies. Wow! It was a fairy tail. I had never seen anything like this, nor did Robbe and Silke. Pure magic!
After this photoshoot we went home, because the land was starting to warm up and we were longing for a little lunch. The beautiful house that Robbe and Silke had rented for their elopement was cooled by a natural breeze that blew in through the open windows. Robbe and Silke enjoyed their time together and started writing their vows.
In the afternoon the harsh, intense light slowly faded and it was time to get dressed for the big moment and drive to that special spot on the Normandy coast. As we walked to the beach with its characteristic high cliffs, little children followed us, speaking sweet words to Silke in her beautiful wedding dress: “Vous êtes très belle, madame.” (You are very beautiful, madam.)
For the second time that day, we all felt like we were celebrating a magical elopement. The sky was a lifelike version of a Monet painting – a blend of pink and purple. The incredible beautiful light was filling the air. It couldn’t have been more beautiful. It was the perfect setting for Robbe and Silke’s vows.
Check out the photos if you want to see the magic I’m writing about.
