If you are looking for a refined elopement, Île de Ré might be the perfect location. An elopement on this little island is first and foremost a ‘love story’, set amidst historic ruins and wildflower meadows, while enjoying Champagne in an olive grove.
Romain and Irina contacted me after seeing some of my work. They had already gotten married a few years ago in a small ceremony at a town hall, and due to circumstances, they did not have a professional photographer. Romain wanted to renew their vows after seven years of marriage, but this time with my camera as a witness, and as an anniversary gift for Irina.
Romain remembered a wonderful summer holiday with his family on Île de Ré. It was the perfect location for their vow renewals. So Romain and I planned a beautiful day full of love.
The day of their elopement was announced as a very warm day. We started early with coffee and croissants – we are in France after all – and then got dressed for what would be a beautiful day for both Irina and Romain. I was in awe of Romain, who said his vows in Russian to his Irina, and Irina did the same, but in French, to Romain. I could clearly hear Irina, emotionally but firmly, ending her vows with the words: “Romain, je vous aîme.”
Wow. This job of mine often brings me to tears.
The ruins of the 13th century abbey where this intimate ceremony took place made the perfect location, and provided some shade for the intense love of this beautiful couple.
